MEDICINE COLLECTION EVENT RESULTS – FALL 2016

Tallahassee, Florida—On Saturday, October 22nd, the Southern Waste Information eXchange, Inc. (SWIX), in partnership with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Costco’s, Florida Pharmacy Association, Florida Society of Health Systems Pharmacists, 94.9 TNT, FAMU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, FAMU’s Institute of Public Health, Florida State University, Center for Biomedical & Toxicological Research (CBTR), and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, held an Operation Medicine Cabinet event for the free collection of unwanted or unneeded medications (both over the counter and prescription).

This was the eighth time that SWIX in partnering with the DEP and the Leon County Sheriff’s Office has held this type of event at Costco’s.

During the event, 131 Tallahassee participants brought in 254 pounds of over the counter and prescription medications.

These collection events provide Tallahassee/Leon County citizens the opportunity to properly dispose of their unused or unneeded medications, protecting the environment and lessening the chances for the illegal and potentially harmful use of these drugs.
