Operation Medicine Cabinet Results – Tallahassee/Leon County County, Florida, October, 2019
On Saturday, October 26th, the Southern Waste Information eXchange, Inc. (SWIX), in partnership with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), the U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Walmart, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University’s (FAMU) Institute of Public Health, Florida State University’s (FSU) Center for Biomedical & Toxicological Research, iHeartMedia (WTNT 94.9, WFLA 100.7) and the Tallahassee Police Department, held an Operation Medicine Cabinet event for the collection of unwanted or unneeded medications (both over the counter and prescription).
During the event, 190 Tallahassee/Leon County participants brought in 252 pounds of over the counter and prescription medications.
These collection events provide Tallahassee/Leon County citizens the opportunity to properly dispose of their unused or unneeded medications, protecting the environment and lessening the chances for the illegal and potentially harmful use of these drugs.
