Operation Medicine Cabinet – Walton County, Florida, February 2019

Walton County, Florida—On Saturday, February 26th and Sunday, February 27th, Safe Water for Walton, the Southern Waste Information eXchange, Inc. (SWIX), Walton County School District, Walton County Sheriff’s Department, Gulf Power, Hall & Runnels and many other supporting media and local event supporters, held an Operation Medicine Cabinet event for the free collection of unwanted or unneeded medications (both over the counter and prescription).  The events will held at Walton Middle School, South Walton County High School, and Freeport Middle School.

This was the second year that this event has been held in Walton County and marks a first for having three events held over a weekend period.

During this year’s collection event, 45 participants brought in 95 pounds of over the counter and prescription medications.

These collection events provide Walton County citizens the opportunity to properly dispose of their unused or unneeded medications, protecting water supply, the environment and lessening the chances for the illegal and potentially harmful use of these drugs.
